En las artes tradicionales y sobre todo desde el Renacimiento, la sombra es uno de los elementos constitutivos de una buena pintura y tiene su culmen en maestros como Rembrandt y Caravagio.
En la contemporaneidad, la sombra se vuelve la protagonista, su configuración efímera y su cualidad evocadora la hace ser la preferida por muchos artistas.
En el reciente premio de artes visuales promovido por la Universidad de Antioquia, la propuesta de Yosman Botero obtuvo el galardón, su silla es una deconstrucción formal que se configura en la sombra para adquirir identidad.
Dentro de los artistas que se destacan por el uso de las sombras podemos nombra a Fred Eerdekens con sus propuestas de nubes, alambres y tubos, y a la pareja de Tim Noble y Sue Webster por su trabajo con basura, chatarra y elementos de cocina.

In the contemporanety, the shade becomes the protagonist, its ephemeral configuration and its evocative quality makes be the favourite by many artists.
In the recent prize of visual arts promoted by the University of Antioquia, the proposal of Yosman Botero obtained the award, its chair is a formal deconstrucción that is formed in the shade to acquire identity.

La catedral de Colonia, una de las joyas del arte gótico, tiene ahora un vitral basado en pixeles en su parte sur. El creador es Gerhard Richter, quien se basó en una obra suya de 1974 titulada 4.096 colores y que forma parte la colección del vecino museo Ludwig.
En su inauguración se escuchó la improvisación "lux et color" del organista de la catedral Winfried Bönig y la instalacion sonora "speculum lucis" de Oliver Sperling.
Ahora los pixeles nos rodean por todas partes, hasta en la catedral.
